Final Composition day: By Eduard Anghel
On the 6th of August 2021 between 7 PM and 10:30 PM, and 7th of August 2021 between 10 AM and 3 PM, at the Purcell School, I watched the final compositions of all the Musicians from the Sound and Music Summer School and I thought it was amazing.
I found it great how different every single piece of music was from each other, not only throughout the concerts, but also within the different groups, as I found that it kept the concerts interesting and fresh, and kept them flowing very nicely. The presentations from the students were enjoyable too, I loved hearing a little bit of their thought process behind their pieces. I also enjoyed presenting my own piece, as I was proud of what I had accomplished by the end of the week, and I wanted to show it to people.
I learnt a lot about premieres and how many little things can go wrong and unnoticed during the premiere of a piece. I shared my review with the other students from my group. Most of them agreed with what I said, and others had slightly different opinions. For example, some of them thought that clapping during jazz songs was appropriate and is something that’s done very often.
It was very inspiring, and I will try to return to the summer school next year. I loved seeing the creativity and originality in every composer. The performers were also fantastic and to anyone else attending the Sound and Music Summer School I would tell them to get ready to be blown away.
