For the second and third days of the summer school, the morning’s activities involved us partaking in hour long sessions with all of the key tutor groups. One of today’s sessions was with the Film Group, and involved writing a short piece for cello to accompany a short film. Crucial moments were identified (known as ‘hit-points’) and emphasised by the score. Personally, I used chromatic harmonies and tritones to do so.

This activity allows you to create vast amounts of emotion and tension in a limited time, and I felt the writing experience to be liberating and subsequently unique. For these reasons, I thoroughly enjoyed this taster session.
